That is the dream we carry

I was recently introduced to this poem by the Norwegian poet Olav H. Hauge (1908-1994) by my therapist. Wonder what she was trying to tell me? I immediately liked it and wanted to do my own translation. Instead I ended up with a retelling based on my own interpretation. I hope nobody will mind.

Original version in Norwegian is called “Det er den draumen” for those who want to find out more.

This is my retelling:

That is the dream we carry
that something wonderfully is to happen
that it has to happen-
time will open
hearts will open
doors will open
the mountain crags will open
the springs will flow
the dream will open-
and that we, in an early morning hour will be gliding
into a wave we never knew the existence of
